EUGENE — Wakefield track star Shawnti Jackson can now add national champion to her accolades after winning first place in the 100-meter dash at the USA Track and Field U20 Outdoor Championships at Eugene, Ore. June 24.
Jackson set a new personal record with a time of 11.07 to win the national title. The win elevated her to No. 4 all-time competitor in the 100-meter dash.
Jackson is currently ranked 73rd overall in the world as a 17-year-old according to World Athletics World Rankings. She also holds the national high school record for the indoor 60-meter dash with a time of 7.18 seconds, which she set at New York Jan. 29.
With a national title under her belt, Jackson will compete in the World Athletics U20 Championship at Santiago de Cali in Colombia from Aug. 1-6. Over 1,500 athletes from all over the world will compete in this global event to see who is the best track athlete in the world. Jackson’s event, the women’s 100-meter dash, will be Aug. 2.
